Oru Vadakkan Selfie is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film written and directed by Prabu David. The film, starring Nithya Menen and Ishaan Khatter in lead roles, tells the story of a college student who finds fame on the Internet after he posts a selfie on Instagram that goes viral. The film was shot in Chennai and produced by Bandi Kalaingar Films. Inspired from the "International Selfie Day", Oru Vadakkan Selfie was released worldwide on 12 July 2016 to positive reviews but also as yet another type of social media craze as it failed to score well at the box office like its predecessor Saranath Ayyanna 2.0. The film opened to a poor response at the box office, collecting a total of 1.17 crore from its first three days and was declared a super hit with the successful run of 70 days. The film faced huge criticism from the audience. But Ishaan Khatter thanked his fans for the success of Oru Vadakkan Selfie on Twitter appreciated Prabu David by posting a selfie with Nithya Menen. Oru Vadakkan Selfie is the second film in the franchise after the failure of Saranath Ayyanna 2.0. The film's story was penned by director Prabu David, while the screenplay was written by Arun Pandian (directorial debut). The cinematography was handled by Suresh V. Mohan and editing by Anthony Maroon Vasudevan under his production banner Bandi Kalaingar Films. The film's music was composed by D. Imman and lyrics were written by Na. Muthukumar, Vivek, Egodeep, Deepak Dev & Pazhani Bharathi. After the release of the teaser, there was a huge response from the audience and also from film makers. Deepak Dev, in his review for The Hindu, wrote: "Oru Vadakkan Selfie belongs to a particular school of filmmaking that believes in pure escapism and doesn't take itself too seriously. Prabhu David (a debutant) has used the premise to take us on a fun ride — minus any pretence — and we go along willingly." "The Times Of India" gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars. "Oru Vadakkan Selfie" opened to 2.13 crore at the box-office in India on its opening day, which was lower than the prequel "Saranath Ayyanna 2.0". However, it earned more than 1 crore worldwide on its opening day, alongside the USA and Canada. The film collected 3.58 crore in its second day at the Indian box office.
